  • *Chobanian's “TANGO FANTASY”explores the characteristic qualities of Flamenco, the Argentinean Tango, and the Middle East. "This was the second composition for Guitar and Orchestra Chobanian had composed especially for Marija Temo... The soloist Temo's rhythms were precises and fiery. Her rendition seemed to inspire an equally spirited and exact performance from the orchestra. The different characters of flamenco and that of Argentenean tango blended in succession as if they belonged together and they indeed complemented each other naturally... The Middle Eastern melodies were reminiscent of themes that are used to call for prayer... Temo's rasqueado's, as expected were exeptional..." - The Armenian Mirror- Spectator, Cleveland, Ohio (CD to be available soon.) See Program Notes & Press Quotes

FLAMENCO AMAZEMENT - Educational Concerts for Children and Adults
Flamenco Amazement is a lecture-presentation with active audience participation, featuring Marija Temo as a flamenco/classical guitarist, flamenco singer, and dancer. Temo traces the lineage of how flamenco began and demonstrates emotions explored through some of the flamenco forms. She explains and shows the different types of fiery strumming patterns and techniques used in flamenco guitar playing as well as the variety of rhythms used in flamenco music. Temo also discusses the technique of flamenco singing and dance and demonstrates them. Audiences participate in learning flamenco handclap rhythms and shouting flamenco words of encouragement. They also learn to sing a flamenco melody accompanied by Temo, try a few dance steps with costume props, and accompany one another with flamenco handclap rhythms. Flamenco Amazement has been presented in venues such as the Backyard Theatre at Strathmore Hall, Bethesda, MD; the Harmony Hall Concert Series, Fort Washington, MD; the Prince George’s County Libraries; Westminster College, MD; and in the US and abroad.
