Description: A four week flamenco workshop series with dancers, singers, and guitarists learning structure and application together. Dancers learn aspects on how to effectively convey llamadas, mark salidas and letras, position your body that asks for a falseta, communicate your tempo and rhythmic pulses, and effectively go from the 1 to the 12 in an escobilla or subida. Guitarists learn how to accompany dancers and singers with proper strumming patterns and chords with these topics, and singers learn how to effectively and communicatively sing the letra in this interactive experience. Note: All disciplines can focus more on the interactive and application process if they have pre-learned steps, guitar, or singing material but not essential.
Marija’s Communication Course was offered for 10 years consecutively at the University of New Mexico International Flamenco Festival, at the Toronto International Flamenco Festival, and reviewed in magazines such as Flamenco USA, Flamenco International (London, England), and Dance Magazine.
This 7 week course will give a confident way to execute bulerias por fiesta in a live setting with any dancer, guitarist, and singer. A breakdown of an essential format used in bulerias will be taught. An added opportunity, this course invites dancers, guitarists, and singers individually or combined to present live or in video any part of your choreography, accompaniment, and letra (verse). A coaching will be given in revealing the understanding and improvements needed to execute your steps, letra, and accompaniment clearly. Looking forward to helping build your knowledge and confidence in performing bulerias.
Topics include in this order:
Rhythmic patterns
Typical fundamental rhythmic patterns that are used in all disciplines and how to recognize them and accompany them.

Participants: I welcome your topics and questions on the fb event page. All questions are welcomed from the simplest to more advanced such as:
What is a palo and how do I start learning flamenco?
How do I practice when I don’t have a flamenco community to work with?
How can I improve my skills when I only have recordings or method books?
How do I make the material I learn from workshops work with dancers, guitarists, and singers?
How do I get the guitarist to hit the correct chords when I sing?
How can I respond to cante without getting stuck in my choreography?
What do I change in my playing to better accompany a dancer?
