Workshop Fee: $70 ($130 if taking both Tangos & Sevillanas Workshop)
$50 (Special rate for more experienced Temo students.)

Sevillanas Flamenco Communication Beg/Inter Level Workshop with Marija Temo, (Open to the community and recommended for all Temo local students.) 
Areas to be covered: Compas of Sevillanas for guitarists and dancers; Structure of Sevillanas musically and rhythmically, and how a dance copla works in the structure; Learn to sing a copla of Sevillanas; How to accompany the singing and dance copla at the same time, and know what to bring out and complement.

Workshop Fee:$70 ($130 if taking both the Tangos & Sevillanas Wkshp)
$50 (Special rate for more experienced Temo students if you feel this workshop will be beneficial in any way).

12:15- 1:15p.m.  Sevillanas Improvisation Inter/Adv Level Workshop with Marija Temo, (Open to the community and for more experienced Temo local cante and outside of MD/VA/DC students. Scroll down below for more detailed info on this workshop.

Workshop fee: $50 per person (Note to Temo local guitar students, you are welcome to observe at no cost.)

*Coaching Special: Structure & Improvisation with Marija Temo & Anna Menendez (guest flamenco dancer), for Temo students outside of MD/VA/DC.  Try out accompanying and singing different letras in an improvised run through with Anna Menendez dancing. She will also give feedback to dancers trying out the improvised process with their repertoire.

Fee: $70 per person per hour, $35 per half hour

Tangos Flamenco Communication Beg/Int Level Workshop with Marija Temo
(
Open to the community and recommended for all Temo local students)

(Special rate for more experienced Temo students if you feel this workshop will beneficial in any way.)

Areas to be covered: Tangos rhythmic accent patterns; Apply proper palmas and learn to follow; Aire; Letra structure with some deviations; Strumming patterns; How to follow baile, desplantes, and llamadas; How and where to follow and respond to cante; How to dance to letra, and when to apply desplantes and llamadas; Learn to sing a letra and how to clearly convey melody, tones, and variations so a guitarist can anticipate the correct chords to be played and both the guitarist and dancer can anticipate the cante structure and how to respond rhythmically and musically.
Note: A portion of this class will be designated to Temo students playing falsetas in the structure process for singers.

Dancers are highly encouraged to bring marking steps or choreography they already know in order to learn how to improvise and follow the music; if not basic marking steps will be provided.

Sevillanas Improvisation Int/Adv Level Workshop with Marija Temo
(Open to the public and for more experienced Temo local cante and outside of MD/VA/DC students)

Areas to be covered: Quick review of: Structure of Sevillanas musically and rhythmically; Compas of Sevillanas for guitarists and dancers; and how a dance copla works in the structure. Focus: Singers to come prepared with different coplas and learn how to vary rhythmically and melodically during the interplay. Dancers to improvise the entire copla knowing how to maintain structure, and interpret how the different coplas are sung;  Guitarists will learn ho wto survive figuring out chords on the fly, maintain structure and provide aire, and bring out and complement different phrasing and accents of the singer and dance.

Time: 12:15-1:15p.m.
Inter/Adv Level

Workshop fee
: $50 per person per hour

Anna Menendez Biography

Anna Menendez, originally from Baltimore, Maryland is a Flamenco Dancer based in  Washington, D.C. .  She has danced on many local and national stages.  Anna has appeared in Edwin Aparicio’s productions of  “Bailes Ineditos”, “Encuentros”, “Camino al Flamenco”,“Entresuenos” and “Intimo” with Carmela Greco.  Anna has performed in over 50 children’s concerts with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO). In 2003, ’04 and ’05 the BSO contracted her to perform in their prime time “Symphony with a Twist” series. In 2003 and 2004 she performed with renowned classical guitarist Manuel Barrueco and in ’05 choreographed Falla’s “El Amor Brujo” which she presented with a company of dancers with the BSO for sold out performances at the Strathmore and the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.  Most recently Anna appeared in “Espejos” which was presented at the Jack Morton Auditorium of the George Washington University and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of Spain.  In “Espejos” she collaborated with Spanish tenor Israel Lozano and guitarist Salva de Maria of “Noche Flamenca”. In October of 2011 Anna and her company “Pastora” performed as a part of Velocity at the Sydney Harman Hall in Washington DC.  A review by the Washington Post described her performance as “virtuosic”.

Anna is a 2003 recipient of the Artistic Fellowship award from the D.C. council for the Arts and Humanities for excellence in Flamenco dance.

Anna currently teaches at the American Dance Institute in Rockville, Maryland.
