FLAMENCO REVEALED MARCH ONLINE WORKSHOP
Saturday March 6th
1-2:30PM CST (2-3:30p.m. EST/ 11-12:30 PT)
FEE: $65
Working with Escobillas – 12 or 1?
In this workshop we’ll be looking at an escobilla (footwork sequence) and how the first accent can change from the 1 to the 12 and vice versa. This is often seen in alegrías, soleá por bulerías and soleá. Using one of these styles, we’ll talk about how the dancer can make a clear transition so the player is able to catch the change and how players can best support the steps. Singers and dancers will also work on palmas accompaniment for escobilla sections. Marija and Kerensa will demonstrate how to clearly transition from accenting the 1 to accenting the 12 (or vice versa), and how to anticipate the change. We’ll also look at what makes footwork section flow musically and explain when/how to transition.
Dancers who register by March 3rd will receive a prep video with a footwork sequence to learn prior to the workshop.
All participants will receive a practice video following the workshop with the material we cover.
