Beginner Dance Workshop por Bulerias (Thurs – Sat)
Bulerías for everyone! This workshop breaks down the structure of dancing bulerías in a party setting with simple steps that can be done with or without shoes. We’ll focus on the ‘aire’ of bulerías and finding your own style. You’ll learn how to do supportive palmas, how to listen for cues in the cante and how to enter and exit. Great refresher for everyone and perfect for beginning dancers!
*Beginner Dancer are highly encouraged to participate in the Bulerias por Fiesta and Bulerias Singing workshop in tablao style w/ dancers & guitarists in supportive roles. See workshops descriptions.
Marcaje w/ Falsetas Workshop (Fri- Sat)
This workshop is geared towards those dancers with a bit more experience dancing flamenco and guitarists who have a falseta or two ready to try out with the dancers.
Fri
Dancers learn to improvise and follow falsetas from various guitarists. Guitarists bring falsetas (rhythmic and lyrical) in different palos to try out in group class. Dancers and Guitarists learn about phrasing, what makes a falseta danceable, what movements go well with different types of falsetas and how to musically close and anticipate the close of a falseta. Dance material will be taught for each falseta and dancers will have opportunities to try out the process individually.
Sat. Transitions
Dancers will learn about how to transition into and out of falsetas in various palos. Guitarists will bring falsetas to try out in group class with a focus on what precedes and follows the falseta. This gives context to the work from the previous ‘marcaje with falsetas’ class.
Bulerias Singing workshop in tablao style w/ dancers & guitarists in supportive roles (Thur-Sat)
A multi-level workshop for everyone including beginners to participate in specific group roles. Singers, for those who have some experience singing, will learn a cuple (song like form) and a few remates (dance steps), while singing and guide the other participants to sing an estribillo (chorus). Dancers and guitarists, even beginners, participate in learning to accompany proper palmas (flamenco hand clap rhythms) and sing an estribillo (chorus) guided by the singer as done in true tablao style. The bulerias cuple can be sung with or without guitar accompaniment.
Juerga (flamenco party, open to the community) (Sat.)
Observation: All workshops and coachings are open for an observation fee. (Observation is free for the days that you are registered for a workshop.)
