Singers will have the opportunity to work with salidas while dancers try different ways to start the llamada. Players will work on the accompaniment for a basic llamada as well as specific accompaniment for the llamada we use in the workshop. We’ll talk about how to create a llamada with musical interest and how to give clear accents for the player. We’ll also look at how to anticipate the ending of the cante salida to begin the llamada, how to give a clear cue that you’re starting the llamada and what to do if you miss it.

FLAMENCO REVEALED MARCH ONLINE WORKSHOP

Saturday March 6th
1-2:30PM CST (2-3:30p.m. EST/ 11-12:30 PT)

FEE: $65

Working with Escobillas – 12 or 1?

In this workshop we’ll be looking at an escobilla (footwork sequence) and how the first accent can change from the 1 to the 12 and vice versa. This is often seen in alegrías, soleá por bulerías and soleá. Using one of these styles, we’ll talk about how the dancer can make a clear transition so the player is able to catch the change and how players can best support the steps. Singers and dancers will also work on palmas accompaniment for escobilla sections. Marija and Kerensa will demonstrate how to clearly transition from accenting the 1 to accenting the 12 (or vice versa), and how to anticipate the change. We’ll also look at what makes footwork section flow musically and explain when/how to transition.

Dancers who register by March 3rd will receive a prep video with a footwork sequence to learn prior to the workshop.

All participants will receive a practice video following the workshop with the material we cover.
